Looking to immigrate to Canada? Foreign nationals wishing to enter Canada fall into two categories : temporary residents and permanent residents.

Immigration matters fall under the joint jurisdiction of the provincial and federal governments.
The provinces nominate candidates for immigration, while the federal government exercises control (in particular security and health checks) and approves the candidate’s admission.

The exception is the province of Quebec which has, by law, the power to select its candidates.
